While it’s one thing to look luxurious and stylish on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Creating a healthy and hygienic environment for your family and your pet comes down to fastidious attention to the fabrics and fibres that go into ensuring a good night’s sleep. That’s every step of the process, from the choice of inner fibres, cotton covers and the double row of piping for support, to the gusset for structure as well as zippers that don’t snag fur and the sealed-box-style quilted outer cover and inner bed.
When it comes to your dog’s bed, there are six factors that separate the firm from the floppy, the flea fighters from the drool dragnets.
Here is what makes Poppy’s Pet Beds different:
- Airiness and breathability
- Unique inner fibres /cotton covers combination
- Double row of piping for structure
- Zippers that don’t snag fur
- Sealed-box-styled quilting
- Luxurious and stylish outer bed that gets tails wagging every time
… it’s about quality, expertise and a passion for perfection that makes for sweet doggie dreams.
Every element and every layer, inside and out, of Poppy’s Pet Beds is carefully chosen to make sure your fur baby gets the best possible sleep. From the cloud-like fibre-fill to the quality cotton covers, bespoke cotton piping, generous gusset and individually quilted squares to prevent fill migration, we have brought our knowledge and expertise into crafting a quality product that we know your dog will love. There are no nasties in our bedding, just soft, washable materials that will ensure all members of the household are happy and well rested.
The layers
To give shape and fullness, premium fibre-fill is used to produce a cushiony fuller bed. It’s identical to the fibre-fill we use in our own microCloud luxury toppers.
We avoided foam or foam moulding technology, as the injected material may often activate gas that leads to the acrid off-gassing odour and is linked to a bunch of nasty conditions – not what you or your pet or your family want to inhale.
Pure Japara cotton
Japara high-density, pure cotton fabric is made of fine fibres, with a thread count of about 230 threads per inch. In the premium bedding business, Japara cotton is much sought-after as a premier fabric for mattresses, duvets and pillow covers. Thicker than regular cotton and finely processed, it prevents pilling and resists fibres from poking through the fabric
Impervious to drool, it is a water-repellent and stain-resistant fabric, making it an excellent barrier for any accident or spill, offering a quick clean without damage. Japara pure cotton is a natural fabric – highly durable, breathable and comfortable.
A healthy choice for Poppy’s Pet Bed inner heart, it allows natural moisture from your pet’s body to pass through, thereby eliminating clamminess to create a more restful sleeping environment.
Piping
Two rows of smooth, pearl-lustre piping outline the edge seams, which not only enhance the aesthetic, but add to strength and durability, offering a tailored and complete look. The piping provides a clean and professional appearance while reinforced seams, protect the Pet Bed from abrasion as well as damage and deliver additional stability and durability.
Gusset
Gussets are the brackets between the top and bottom of the bed to improve strength, stability and durability, provide better support as well as enhancing form and fullness.
Rectangular, gusseted-cotton panels of about five centimetres, connect the top and bottom of the bed.
The gusset ensures the bed retains its shape so it remains plump, firm and inviting.
The gussets provide additional support for all your pup’s sleep styles from tummy sleepers to back sleepers and all the permutations in-between-sleepers.
Locked-box chambers
Double-stitched, individually quilted squares prevent fill-migration. The even airflow, promoted by the extra ventilation keeps dogs cool and dry.
The quilted squares are richly reinforced to promote insulation and durability, adding another layer of therapeutic texture that contours snuggly to your dog’s shape. The filling is kept in place so the bed is always fluffy for your fur-baby to leap into with a bounce-back fullness.
Advanced invisible two-sided zipper
The moisture-resistant nylon, no-snag zipper closure, double stitched into the gusset, provides a strong unbreakable bond that locks out bacteria, stains, mites and fleas. Durable, lightweight, flexible and rust-proof, this zipper is for life. Maintaining functionality for the long term means it won’t corrode. Non-abrasive and hidden, the zipper type means fur can’t become snagged.
Laminated terry-cotton protective cover
Similar to the technical fabric typically used in high-end outdoor wear, the double-backed laminated terry-cotton cover guards against spills, incontinence, moisture, mould, dust and drool – and it’s paw and claw-resistant. Water-repellent. Laminated. Noiseless.
This gives an extra layer of protection as well as improved durability, meaning the cover is tear and stain resistant. This layer won’t harbour allergens or pet dander.
Stylish and practical
Our parent company’s style team applaud the lushly quilted velour-feel outer cover, agreeing on the two colours that matter: Navy and Silver grey. Double piping is a designer’s delight, providing support and structure to a lofty gusset that promotes airiness and breathability so your hound is kept both cool and snug while ensuring the bed retains its shape.
Your pet’s bed can sit anywhere in the home. If you want your fur-baby on the bed but not in the bed, your Pet Bed can be a cosy addition to the top of your bed, keeping pup separate from the human bedding. Similarly, Poppy’s Pet Bed sits easily on the floor or on top of a raised Pet Bed or the couch.
Poppy’s Pet Bed is designed to be a part of your home’s furnishing – a classic contemporary and luxurious look for the discerning owner who values the combination of good looks, health and hygiene.
Main outer velour-feel quilted cover
The outer velour-feel, quilted cover has a cut-loop pile, giving an elegant semi-lustre. The short pile repels fleas, opposed to the shaggy faux-fur style that is a hotbed for crawling critters such as ticks and mites.
The fabric is soft and plush, making it more durable and robust than its velvet counterparts.
Dogs like texture, which is why you so often see dogs dive onto, burrow into, rub against and coil around textured fabrics. Our pets enjoy feeling swaddled, finding it soothing and relaxing.
Fun fact: The word velour derived from the French word for velvet and has a rich history dating back to ancient times.
